Group: DeSantis win in Disney lawsuit could embolden actions against journalists

An advocacy group for journalists wants to get involved with Disney’s free speech lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis ORLANDO, Fla. -- A legal advocacy group for journalists wants to get involved in Disney's free speech lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis. The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press says a win by the Florida governor could embolden other governments across the U.S. to take actions against journalists and other media when they exercise their First Amendment rights. The group on Friday asked a judge for permission to file a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the claims brought by Disney against DeSantis, his appointees to a special district board governing Disney World and a state economic development agency. The lawsuit claims the Florida governor violated the company's free speech rights by taking control over the district in retaliation for Disney's public opposition to the so-called “Don't Say Gay” bill. Rasmus Hojlund potential shirt numbers at Man Utd

Manchester United are close to making Rasmus Hojlund their third signing of the summer transfer window after a breakthrough in talks with Atalanta over the transfer fee. Hojlund only joined Atalanta last summer, but the 20-year-old has shown enough long-term potential with his 10 goals in 34 appearances - all the while sharing minutes with more senior players - to convince United to part with a guaranteed £64m (€75m). Another £8.5m (€10m) is in add-ons. Atalanta had earlier rejected three offers from United, the most recent reaching £50m. But personal terms over a proposed five-year contract had already been agreed with Hojlund and a move to Old Trafford has long been the player's desired outcome this summer. Hojlund was not involved as Atalanta faced Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, while the Bergamo side have already secured his replacement in the shape of El Bilal Toure from Almeria. Erik ten Hag is known for his ability to develop and nurture young talent from

An Arizona woman died after her power was cut over a $51 debt. That forced utilities to change

The death of an older Arizona woman when her electricity was cut during a heat spell five years ago spurred changes in shutoff rules PHOENIX -- Stephanie Pullman died on a sweltering Arizona day after her electricity was cut off because of a $51 debt. Five years later, the 72-year-old's story remains at the heart of efforts to prevent others in Arizona from having their power cut off, leaving them without life-saving air conditioning in temperatures that have topped 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) on every day this month. “Stephanie Pullman was the face of the fight that helped put the disconnect rules in place for the big, regulated utilities in Arizona,” said Stacey Champion, an advocate who pushed for new regulations. “But we need more.” Arizona Public Service, known as APS, disconnected Pullman's power in September 2018 at a time when outside temperatures in her retirement community west of Phoenix reached 107 degrees Fahrenheit (41.6 Celsius). Say goodbye to Bodypainting Day, New York City’s annual celebration of nudity and artistry

It’s last call for New York City’s celebration of baring it all NEW YORK -- If you've ever dreamed of standing naked in New York City with dozens of strangers while artist s turn your skin into a work of art, you may have missed your chance. Sunday’s Bodypainting Day will be the final edition after more than a decade of artists turning nude bodies into works of art. Organizer Andy Golub expects more than 50 people will be painted over four hours in Manhattan’s Union Square. Golub decided this year’s event would be the last because it’s time to “move on and clear that plate.” He said he wants to find different ways of empowering and bringing people together, including a new event next spring. After Sunday’s body painting is finished, the participating artists and models will march through Greenwich Village, pose for a photo in Washington Square Park, ride a double-decker bus over the Manhattan Bridge and end the day with a party in Brooklyn, Golub said.
