Pentagon to review LGBTQ+ discharges, correct records to ensure benefits
The outreach campaign comes 12 years since "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was repealed. On the 12th anniversary of the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, the Pentagon on Wednesday detailed a new DOD outreach campaign that will begin reviewing discharge records of LGBTQ+ veterans in an effort to make sure they have access to veterans' benefits. Under the new campaign, the DOD for the first time will begin proactively review ing the Military records of veterans less-than-honorably discharge d because of their sexual orientation who may be eligible for discharge upgrades, but have not yet applied. Upgrading to an honorable discharge, which is the highest classification, would open the door to full veterans benefits for those affected.
