Rhode Island Weather for Feb. 23, 2023 – John Donnelly

Image
by John Donnelly, meteorologist A late February low pressure system passes mostly to our south, with a mixed bag of precipitation affecting our area through mid morning. Mostly rain, but some pellets mixed in. Any snow accumulation will be minimal, except for maybe a coating in the northwest hills. A gusty northwest breeze through the saturated air will drain away any warmth from the air, so a truly raw feel we can look forward to. ___ Today’s weather sponsor: John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst . Source: https://thefoxposts.com/rhode-island-weather-for-feb-23-2023-

ChatGPT launches boom in AI-written e-books on Amazon

SAN FRANCISCO: Until recently, Brett Schickler never imagined he could be a published author, though he had dreamed about it. But after learning about the ChatGPT artificial intelligence program, Schickler figured an opportunity had landed in his lap. "The idea of writing a book finally seemed possible," said Schickler, a salesman in Rochester, New York. "I thought 'I can do this.'" Using the AI software, which can generate blocks of text from simple prompts, Schickler created a 30-page illustrated children’s e-book in a matter of hours, offering it for sale in January through Amazon.com Inc's self-publishing unit. In the edition, Sammy the Squirrel, crudely rendered also using AI, learns from his forest friends about saving money after happening upon a gold coin. He crafts an acorn-shaped piggy bank, invests in an acorn trading business and hopes to one day buy an acorn grinding stone. Sammy becomes the wealthiest squirrel in the forest, the envy

Announced by UNESCO in 1999, International Mother Language Day celebrates cultural diversity and commemorates the “language martyr” students of 1952 Bangladesh. These students are honored by the encouragement of multiculturalism and the promotion of protective measures for endangered languages. Current International Mother Language Day events include multicultural festivals which promote the hearing of all voices, and display social cohesion, cultural awareness, and tolerance. Destiny 2 Won't Let You Skip Lightfall On Other Characters Unless You Pay

Back in Destiny 2's Beyond Light expansion, if you wanted to unlock the Stasis subclass on all three of your Guardians, you had to essentially replay the campaign three times. It was a fine campaign, but there were certainly parts that wore on way longer than they should. Bungie eventually lowered the requirements for unlocking Stasis Fragments and Aspects to help with the grind a little, but there are some Guardians out there who still don't have Stasis unlocked on all three characters. That will change in Lightfall. As announced in yesterday's TWAB, Bungie is introducing a new type of character booster that will let you skip the Lightfall campaign, provided you pony up some silver. Related: Destiny 2: Lightfall Preview - A Brilliant Expansion To The Light And Darkness Saga In Lightfall, there will be two character boosters instead of just one. The first will be the regular level-based character booster that already exists in Destiny 2. That's

Why do black holes twinkle? Study examines 5,000 star-eating behemoths to find out

Image
Black holes are bizarre things, even by the standards of astronomers. Their mass is so great, it bends space around them so tightly that nothing can escape, even light itself. And yet, despite their famous blackness, some black holes are quite visible. The gas and stars these galactic vacuums devour are sucked into a glowing disk before their one-way trip into the hole, and these disks can shine more brightly than entire galaxies.   Stranger still, these black holes twinkle. The brightness of the glowing disks can fluctuate from day to day, and nobody is entirely sure why. We piggy-backed on NASA’s asteroid defense effort to watch more than 5,000 of the fastest-growing black holes in the sky for five years, in an attempt to understand why this twinkling occurs. In a new paper in  Nature Astronomy , we report our answer: a kind of turbulence driven by friction and intense gravitational and magnetic fields. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Player Finds Unused House Interiors

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet didn't have many interiors - there's your house, your rival's, sandwich shops, and the ones that are expressed via menus and marked by welcome mats. There are far fewer than in previous Game s, but data miners have found evidence that, during development, more were planned. Lewto tweeted out a couple of screenshots showing a house interior, specifically the living room. We can see mirrors and artwork on the walls, a coffee table on top of a rug, a sofa, a chair, a fireplace, and a TV - it's nothing remarkable, but it's also evidently not a service spot. It's a simple enough interior, like the many we visited in previous Pokemon Game s. Maybe we'd find an old man inside with his daughter, asking us to trade 'mons.
